The Short Version
jo runs 100% on your Mac. Your notes, photos, emails, and files never leave your computer. We literally cannot access your data.
What Data jo Accesses
jo reads data from apps you explicitly grant permission to:
- Apple Notes
- Apple Photos
- Apple Mail
- Apple Messages
- Apple Calendar
- Apple Reminders
- Apple Contacts
- Files and folders you specify
This data is indexed locally on your Mac. It never leaves your device.
What We Collect
We collect minimal data necessary to operate the service:
- Account email: To identify your account and send important updates
- Usage metrics: Anonymous counts of queries (not the content) to improve the product
- Payment information: Processed securely by Stripe; we never see your card details
What We Never Collect
- Your notes, photos, emails, or files
- The content of your queries
- Your browsing history
- Any personal data from your Mac
How to Verify
Open Activity Monitor while using jo. You'll see zero outbound connections to our servers for your personal content. The only network calls are for:
- Account authentication
- Usage metering (anonymous counts only)
- App updates
Data Security
Your indexed data is stored locally using Apple's security frameworks. It's protected by your Mac's encryption and access controls.
Third Parties
We use:
- Stripe: Payment processing
- Fillout: Waitlist form collection
Neither has access to your personal files or jo query content.
Your Rights
You can:
- Delete the jo app and all local data at any time
- Request deletion of your account email from our systems
- Export your account data
